Basic information of the sector
Under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture are 14 secondary vocational education establishments, where 1 831 students are engaged in secondary vocational education programs and 2 744 students – in programs of vocational studies in music, art and choreography.
The vocational secondary education programs and vocational programs in art are offered also by two municipal secondary vocational education establishments – Secondary Art School of Daugavpils “Saules skola” and Secondary Art School of Valmiera, where 210 students are engaged in the studies in vocational secondary programs and 364 – in vocational art program studies.
Vocational secondary education programs:
• 728 students are engaged in music programs,
• 1 282 – in art programs,
• 31 students – in choreography.
In Latvia there are 143 municipal vocational music and art educational establishments with 20 905 students. 60 of them are music schools, 35 are art schools and 48 are music and art schools.
Under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture there are 4 accredited higher educational establishments. There are 685 students at the Culture College of Latvia. At the Latvian Academy of Culture there are 629 students, at the Latvian Academy of Arts - 628 students and at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music - 512 students.
