Audiovisual and media policy

  • A strong media environment where high quality content is created based on professional journalistic standards also facilitates the development of a high quality informative space in general. For this reason the Media Policy Guidelines and the accompanying Action Plan (approved on 8 November 2016) will make a contribution to the development of Latvia’s national information space.

  • The role of the EU in this area is to create a single European digital market for audiovisual services, taking into consideration also the cultural aspects. The task of the EU is to ensure uniform rules in all Member States while not limiting freedom of expression but prohibiting the dissemination of hate speech, protecting minors from harmful content, popularising European audiovisual works etc.
