On 1 February organizers of Latvian Design Award have received a significant number of applications, 147 candidates for the main prize. As per the terms and conditions of the award, from 10 February to 2 March, the jury of both international and local industry professionals, will judge all the submitted works and nominate the 20 best for the final.

An international team of design industry professionals will participate in judging the entries submitted for the National Design Award of Latvia. Based on their experience and knowledge, through a process of joint discussions, jury members from Latvia and abroad will judge the entries according to equal criteria, without dividing them into individual categories. The jury will be joined in its final assessment of the submitted entries by this year’s NDAL special guest – co-founder and Editor of the world’s leading design magazine Frame, Robert Thiemann.

In the list of members of jury for the 1st National Design Award of Latvia are: Hringur Hafsteinsson, Creative Director of the award-winning agency Gagarin, Stéphane Vial, Associate Professor of Design and Doctoral Advisor, as well as Research Leader at the University of Nîmes’ design innovation project PROJEKT Lab; Vēsma Kontere McQuillan, architect and Professor at the Westerdals Oslo Westerdals Oslo School of Arts, Communication and Technology; Inese Baranovska, Head of the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design; Rihards Funts, designer, curator and founder of the International Design Summer School MAD, as well as Barbara Ābele, Associate Professor at the Art Academy of Latvia.
